Home and Away: Victory over The Valiants

Hello, and welcome to ‘Home and Away,’ a series of features where I present to you a new experience of football. I am Ryan a student at Carre’s Grammar School in Sleaford – as well as a life-long Lincoln City fan.

Today’s game had it all, quite literally, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into our third win in a row, however I just want to mention how the result of this game may impact the two teams playing and what both teams are fighting for.

Port Vale started the day in 17th and a mere 6 points off the relegation zone whereas Lincoln City sat just below mid table. A win for Port Vale would provide a much-needed lifeline for survival but a much less needed a Lincoln win would bring us into the top half of the table.

Going into the game, I have a lot of confidence that Lincoln will win because of our recent form and how good we have been against some really strong sides.

Lasse Sorensen scored an early goal after a well weighted through ball from Danny Mandroiu trickled past the defender and Lasse was able to dink it past the keeper. Josh Griffiths saw red after he fouled Matty Taylor and gave away a penalty, Taylor then blasted the penalty down the middle to level the score. Daniel Butterworth finished off a flowing move with a pinpoint volley to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the game just minutes after the penalty; The game had flipped on its head. Among the goal celebrations, Tom Conlon was sent off for an off the ball incident which not even the referee spotted. Ben House was able to net his 4th goal in three games after chesting down a long ball that was floated over the defender and slotting the ball past the keeper. The first half ended with the two teams on 2 goals and 10 players each. The second half was a lot less eventful until Robinson was sent off in the 80th minute after a second yellow card, Lincoln have been pushing for a winner but unsuccessfully so far. However, all hope is not lost, Adam Jackson was able to net his first goal since September 2020 in the 87th minute after a pinpoint cross from substitute Dylan Duffy.

That has to be one of the most entertaining games of football I have watched in person, there were so many twists and turns in the game which made it so gripping. The result was good but losing Rushworth is not ideal, let’s hope that Jordan Wright can step up to the challenge.

Lincoln now have 5 games left this season, let’s just hope for some interesting football. Barnsley travel to Lincoln on Tuesday for a 7:45 kickoff which I will be making a little report on, make sure you are ready for the article on Wednesday!

  1. Hi ryan, It wasn’t Josh Griffiths who plays for Lincoln it is Carl rushworth who got the red card – other than that good review
